Tom's Creek Falls (Marion, NC)
Hiking is not my family's favorite activity. My wife really does not like the outdoors (though she is a good sport about it) and my kids will say they do not like hiking much but often seem to enjoy it more than they will audibly tell you. This is partly due to a bad hiking experience (see post on Waterrock Knob). I tried to find something enjoyable for the whole family that would get us outside for a bit but would not take up an entire day. I had never visited Tom's Creek Falls and after reading a bit about it decided this would be a nice family outing based on the low level of difficulty and the 1.5 mile round trip. Located north of Marion, North Carolina just off of Hwy 221, the trailhead was easy to find. The parking area at the trailhead is a small, dirt parking lot that can hold 5-6 cars so crowds are generally not a problem here if you can find a parking spot.
